Have a School Holiday Picnic at Home – Make Fruit Christmas Tree Kebabs
Breaking up the school holidays with fun outings and relaxed days at home can prevent boredom when kids are home from school.
But when cost of living is putting pressure on family budgets, outings may need to be improvised at home. A simple picnic in the backyard can feel like effort has been made without spending any money.
All you need to do is lay a play rug outside and plan your picnic feast.
These Christmas Tree Fruit Kebabs are the perfect snack to enjoy outside. Best of all, making the kebabs can fill in the morning. And as a bonus, the kids will test their fine motor skills with this food craft.
Here’s what you need to make your Christmas Tree Fruit Kebabs.
Ingredients for Christmas Tree Fruit Kebabs
- Skewer sticks
- Watermelon, honeydew melon and rockmelon
- Star and Christmas tree cookie cutters
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Plate to display on
Instructions
STEP 1: Cut your fruit into 1cm slices. Use your cookie cutters to create shapes out of the watermelon. I used the watermelon for the tree and honeydew or rockmelon for the star.
STEP 2: Use the skewer to pierce through the middle of the Christmas tree. Add your star on top.
STEP 3: Make enough Christmas tree fruit kebabs to enjoy outside on your backyard picnic.
