School is back this month and it’s time to get ready for another new year of learning. Our Australian Animal Pencil Toppers will be sure to bring a smile and a point of difference to the humble lead pencil.
We’ve focussed on three Australian Animals featured in our favourite May Gibb’s books: Mrs Snake, Mrs Kookaburra and Mr Lizard.
Materials
Pipe cleaners
Googley eyes
Small pom poms
Beads
Glue Gun
Scissors
Lead pencils
Mrs Snake Pencil Topper Instructions
To make Mrs Snake you will need to wrap the pipe cleaner around the end of the pencil. We chose a dark green pipe cleaner.
Use a small pom pom to wrap the pipe cleaner around it to create Mrs Snake’s head.
Cut a small piece of pink pipe cleaner for the tongue and glue this to the front of the snake head.
Glue googley eyes for the snake’s eyes.
Mrs Kookaburra Pencil Topper Instructions
Select a white pipe cleaner and wrap this around the pencil end tightly to form the body of the kookaburra.
Before completing the wrap to the top, insert two feathers and fold them down to give texture and create ‘wings’ for Mrs Kookaburra.
Glue a bead for the beak and googley eyes to create Mrs Kookaburra’s face.
Mr Lizard Pencil Topper Instructions
Use a bright green pipe cleaner to wrap around the end of the lead pencil.
Pinch the leftover pipe cleaner to create Mr Lizard’s head.
Select another pipe cleaner and cut into two equal lengths and wrap around Mr Lizard’s body to create the legs.
Glue googely eyes on Mr Lizard’s head to create his face.
