Succulent Pot Craft HeaderLooking for affordable teacher gifts?

The end of the fourth term of school can seem months away, yet it always feels as though it passes the quickest!

I often find I’m scrambling for an affordable teacher gift to thank educators who have made an impact on my children’s lives throughout the school year.

Some schools have a rule that teachers aren’t to accept gifts. Our school has a ruling on what teachers can and can’t accept. A DIY gift can be a thoughtful way to thank a teacher without compromising those rules.

This DIY Succulent Terracotta Face Pot hits the brief and they are so FUN to make! It’s an easy and affordable gift which you can make not only for teachers but other influential people in your children’s life as well.

Succulent Pot Craft Garden

Best of all, you can make these pots now, using succulent pups from an existing garden bed.

Materials to make a Terracotta Face Pot

Succulent Pot Craft Materials

  • Gardening gloves
  • Plain Terracotta pot and base
  • Cactus and succulent potting mix
  • Garden spade
  • Secateurs
  • Black Sharpie (alternatively you can use a paint brush and black paint – use an ice cream container lid as a palette)
  • Succulents – pups from an existing garden or purchased from a garden shop

Instructions

STEP 1:  Select the side of the pot which has no marks or stamp prints. Use your black sharpie to draw eyes and a mouth. The simplest face makes the cutest pot.

STEP 2:  Fill the pot with cactus potting mix.

STEP 3:  Plant your succulents in the pot. Plant taller succulents at the back and more dangling succulents at the front to frame the face on your pot. The dangling succulents imitate hair for your terracotta baby.

STEP 4:  Pat more soil between the succulents to ensure their roots are planted and embedded into the potting mix.

Terracotta pots are great for succulents as they require well drained soil.  The hole in the bottom of the pot with the saucer can ensure the water is able to make its way through to the bottom.
