Celebrate the colours of Australia!
This mosaic gum leaf collage is fabulous for little fingers, has lots of textures and is a wonderful way to learn about colours and shades. It’s also a great way to spend an afternoon.
You’ll need:
- Cardboard to glue your mosaic onto
- Mixed media for your mosaic, e.g. scrap paper, old paint charts, newspaper or magazines
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pencil
How to:
Step 1: Firstly, we collected some mixed media in lovely colours that remind us of gum leaves. This is a great project for using recycled items. We used old paint charts, scrap fabric, leftover paper and some dried gum leaves from the garden.
Step 2: Cut or rip up all your mosaic pieces. It’s best to keep them reasonably small and all similar sizes.
Step 3: Draw an outline of leaves onto the card with your pencil. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it’s just a guide.
Step 4: Now all you need to do is start creating! Start by simply gluing on your pieces. We created our leaves first and then did our background, layering and layering our pieces until we were happy with our gum leaves.
Once you’re done, allow your creation to dry and hang it up for everyone to admire. You could even frame it and gift it to someone special!
