When you work with material for sewing projects, there is always going to be scrap material or offcuts.
Rather than place the scrap material in the bin, why not turn the strips of material into earrings?
These May Gibbs Scrap Material Earrings are a fun way to accessorise your outfit – and you’ll keep the scraps from ending up in landfill!
Earring Materials
May Gibbs material
Scissors
Pinking shears
Twine/cord
Earring hooks
Jewellery jump rings
Two jewellery pliers
Scrap Material Earring Instructions
STEP 1: Use the jewellery pliers to pry open the silver jump ring.
STEP 2: Grab your scrap material and cut into strips of 2cm wide and 10cm-15cm long. Use the pinking shears to give the scrap material texture. Fold the scrap piece so it’s thin and then fold in half.
STEP 3: Feed the scrap material into the open jump ring.
STEP 4: Using the pinking shears, cut up vertically to create a tassel effect on the material ends.
STEP 5: Use the cord or twine to wrap around the top of the material. Knot it tightly.
STEP 6: Place the open jump ring (with the tassel on it) onto the earring hook. Use pliers to gently close the jump ring. You’ve now got one earring made.
STEP 7: Repeat to make the earring pair.
