Make an Easy Petal Baby Headband for Book Week

Date :
August 15, 2019

If you’re looking for a last-minute book week costume, this Petal Baby Headband is the perfect headpiece to make for your child’s costume. By collating materials you already own in your craft and pantry supplies, this petal baby headband takes minutes to create. The headpiece makes your book week costume, so no need to make any other accessories. But if you want to add a bit of something to the outfit, why not take inspiration from our Easy Bush Baby Costume, and make a leaf skirt?

You will need:

• Plain headband
• 4 white patty cake/cupcake liners
• White streamer or ribbon
• Black Sharpie
• Pink felt pen/pencil
• Hot glue gun

Instructions

Step 1: Apply glue to the end of the headband and wrap the white streamer (or ribbon) around the headband. If your headband is white already, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Fold the ends of the four patty cake cases around the headband to create the petals.

Step 3: Get your child to colour the middle of the petal with the pink felt pen.

Step 4: Use the black Sharpie to draw inner strokes within each petal and add dots.

The petal babies are interwoven in many May Gibbs stories, but they are featured in Tales of the Gum Tree. They are distinctive with their headpiece only. Your child can wear a plain white t-shirt and plain white pants to complete the costume.
