Vivid Sydney Festival – May Gibbs Will Make Your Night!

Date :
May 21, 2018

It’s almost time. The 23-day Vivid Sydney festival, now in its 10th year, kicks off on 25 May. Thinking about taking your kids to Australia’s largest event? Do it. Vivid Sydney is an immersive delight for the senses, and there’s enough to inspire even the littlest people in your family. To celebrate 100 years of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie the famous duo will have their own part of the festival!

The Installation:

The Snugglepot and Cuddlepot installation will run for the duration of the festival (25th of May – 16th of June). It will run from 6pm-11pm daily at Customs House. The narration is voiced by actress and beloved former playschool host Noni Hazlehurst, patron of the Australian Children’s Laureate. Renowned art and animation collective Ample Projects brings May Gibbs’ immortal characters to life on the facade of Sydney’s 1845 Customs House and undertook tireless research to ensure an authentic approach. The final product includes more than 15,000 hand drawn animation frames. Watch the behind the scenes video here to find out more:

Why You Should Go:

The Snugglepot and Cuddlepie installation is the perfect place to visit with your kids, or even just by yourself. Many Australian children have grown up steeped in the adventures of the intrepid gumnut babies, the audacious Snugglepot and the demure Cuddlepie.. Experiencing the Vivid Sydney installation offers a once in a lifetime nostalgic experience for you and your family to be immersed in the stories in a way they have never been seen before. For children (and adults!) yet to meet the famous Gumnut Brothers, the Vivid Sydney installation provides an exciting experience and unique introduction to Snugglepot and Cuddlepie and the stories written by May Gibbs. Not only will this mean your children can experience something from your childhood, but it is also a great way to get them into reading. With kids being hooked on their devices these days, it can often be difficult to get them to read, but with this immersion in May Gibbs’ world this offers a fun way to engage them with reading. And of course, the installation will be gorgeous and entertaining: perfect for kids and adults alike.
